Since I wasn't blogging regularly, I would sometimes jot down funny stories about the kids that I wanted to record. I recently found two about Gustav that I wanted to write down. Just to make note: Gustav is a hilarious kid. He is really smart and imaginative, and had a really good sense of humor - shockingly so sometimes!
Story 1: We're in the car on the way home from church (this was probably this past summer.) Gus always quizzes Callie and Gustav on the readings from mass and if they do a good job, they get some sort of treat (food) when we get home. This particular Sunday, we had to stop at Lowe's on the way home and the kids and I are waiting in the car while Gus is in the store. Gustav decides it's time to quiz Callie on the readings so he asks her about the readings and she responds (I'm not paying much attention at the time.) Then I hear Gustav saying "well, Callie that's close, but what the reading was really about was the Recycles. Jesus was telling the Recycles (deciples)..." I have no recollection of what he said after that because I was laughing so hard, but trying not to let Gustav see me laughing!
Story 2: At the end of last school year (Gustav was in Pre-K) I noticed that he stopped bringing home library books on his library day. This went on for a couple weeks and when I asked him about it, he didn't really have an answer for me. So, I decided to ask his teacher what (if anything) was going on. She told me that Gustav said he was too tired to pick out a library book. Now, this might not seem that funny to you, but this is so typical of Gustav when he doesn't feel like doing something!
Last story: I also told this on facebook, but we're sitting at the dinner table and Callie was telling us about a kid in her class and Gustav says (with a completely serious face) "huh, I'll have to look him up online." Just for the record, he does not use the computer ever!

Okay, so I lied last time about posting regularly! If I could only have enough time to remember! Haha!
Anyway, we had a really great, fun summer and are really enjoying our new house! I don't know if I mentioned before, but we moved into our new house in January 2010. I'll post some fall pictures of our house because the trees are really starting to look pretty. I woke up late this morning (8am) and the first thing I saw were some bright orange leaves out the window. It's usually dark when I wake up, but Callie and Gustav didn't have school today so we all slept in. Gabe especially slept in (9:15!!) The older kids have been enjoying their day off and playing outside all day. Gabe is napping right now and getting over being sick.
This year, Callie is in first grade, Gustav is in Pre-K and Gabe stays home with me. It's amazingly easy to have only one child to look after at one time!
Also, we recently found out that Gus got a new job (within the same company) and will start on November 16. We are all really happy about this new job and hope it allows us more time to spend as a family and allows Gus to actually see the kids for more than 30 minutes a day (sometimes he doesn't even get to see Gabe if he's in bed before he gets home.) It was not a good situation, but we're really optimistic that this change will be good!
We are about to run off to Callie's ballet class at the Dance Center of SW Va! So, below are some pictures (a lot are already on facebook.) I don't know what order they will appear so it's not chronological!

Over a Year Later
Wow! I just checked the blog and realized it's been over a year. At least it hasn't been longer and Gabriel has been included a bit.
It's a bit overwhelming to try to figure out where to start, so I'm not going to start by filling in what I messed. I think I'll just start from today and fill in stories as I remember them. I'm standing in my kitchen with my 17 month old (Gabe) hanging on my leg begging for dinner. This child sure can eat! Tonight I'm making kibbi, stuffed grape leaves and baba ghanoush. Jealous? I made the grape leaves a while back and froze them so those were easy. I got about a zillion eggplant from the milkman today (long story) so I had to make the baba ghanoush.
Callie and Gustav are doing well, although they are both grounded at the moment for being horrendous at the mall and grocery store today. It would probably be better for me to write updates about them when I am thinking happier thoughts!

Some of their cousins and Grandpa came to visit. This is 6 out of 8 (we're missing Gabe and Stephen - they must have been sleeping.) Callie and Sophia have a matching missing front tooth!
